1. Tonnage: cooling capacity, not weight
"Ton" is a measure of cooling capacity — how much heat the AC can remove in an hour — not the weight of the unit. One ton equals roughly 12,000 BTU/hr. Undersize the AC and it runs continuously without ever hitting your set temperature, wearing the compressor and spiking the bill.
